Don Pepper 1966 Detroit Tigers

Don Pepper played for the Tigers, and he spent 1966-1967 playing for the Toledo Mud Hens!

He sent me a note about the Mud Hens.

"I still follow the Toledo Mud Hens and visit usually at least 1x a year."

"We had 2 great years at Toledo winning the Cup 1 year and the pennant the next."

  1. The following was just posted on the Laurel (Ky) County genealgoy/history listserv, and I thought you might be able to tell us the name of the London-based baseball team referred to:

(Below was posted to the listserv by Patti Smith, psmith11 at columbus.rr.com of Delaware, Ohio):

I found the below obit for Hiram Owens, son of Benjamin Owens & Mary Johnson. It was published in September, 1961. It mentions that Hiram was a manager of a well-known baseball team in London, Ky. around 1931. I thought this was interesting. Does anyone know of what team it was?

  2. Thanks for stopping by! I am not sure about this one. I am guessing that he was playing for one of the good amateur local teams at that time. I know The magazine, "Kentucky Explorer" has covered some of those teams. I would research this a bit, but my dad has my KE collection right now.
